I didn't learn this from a training course.

I grew up in my mother's wig company in Marylebone, London.

By the time I was a child, that company was creating wigs for some of the biggest film productions in the world.

Star Wars. Superman. James Bond. Amadeus.

The work passed through our company, and I passed through it, putting rollers into wigs during school holidays, absorbing techniques and professional standards that most hairdressers never encounter at all.

I didn't realise how unusual that was until much later. To me it was just where we went after school. The hairdressers were like family. The atmosphere was creative and busy, and I thought I was simply helping out.

What I was actually doing was learning, properly, from people at the very top of their craft. By my teens I was front of house. The people walking through the door were often quite famous, though my mother treated them all with exactly the same matter-of-fact professionalism. They were clients who needed a wig. Nothing more.

That attitude stayed with me when I went on to work in the film industry myself. And when I eventually moved into bridal work, which I'll be honest, was not my first choice, I brought all of it with me. The same preparation. The same technical precision. The same professional standards I had absorbed from the best practitioners in the industry.

What I found, when I arrived in the bridal world, was that those standards were rare. And that rarity turned out to be my niche.
